XenForo Pull data from another database for the logged in User

Hello everyone,

is it possible to pull data from another database based on the Username?
I want to display something and would need to use the logged in User and its name to pull data from another database. Can I safely establish a connection and then pull and display data in a field or separate area of the Forums startpage?
