Ques/Help XFCom new thread alerts not watching users or nodes?

I've had new thread alerts from @mjda and @Old Nick however I'm not following the nodes they're posted in, nor am I following the users.

Before I go bug report am I being stupid somewhere?

Anything @Paul B ?
