XenForo Widget: New Threads - How do you shorten the title length?

We are working on our upgrade from XF1.5 to XF2.1 and the New Threads widget is taking up much more room on our homepage than our previous [bd] Widget Framework one.

How do you shorten the length of the title and remove category link from it too?
